Even more energy-efficient is the solar-powered water heater, which heats up the water through roof-mounted solar panels that soak up the sun’s rays and use that energy to heat the home’s water. Of course, this does rely on sunny days, so having a backup energy plan, such as natural gas or energy, is a good idea if you’d like to have hot water regardless of the weather.
This system uses mostly the heated exhaust from your home’s natural gas system to heat the water, which then is held in a tank like a conventional heater. This also is an energy efficient option since it reuses energy already being generated in the home.
